Ankle Sprain
Taking Care of Your Ankle Sprain
-
REST – Stay off your ankle as much as possible. If we issued you crutches PLEASE use them. If you are able to walk the next day without a limp, you can stop using the crutches and bring them back into the training room.
-
ICE - for 20 minutes. Repeat every 1 to 3 hours.
-
COMPRESSION – wear the ace wrap during the day, but remove during the night. Remember to not leave any holes. The wrap should not be so tight that you loose circulation.
-
ELEVATION – When you are not on your feet, try to keep your ankle above your heart.

Remind your child to see us the next day after their injury to get re-evaluated and to get rehabilitation exercises. If your child is in extreme pain, get x-rays to rule out any fractures. They should continue to ice at least twice a day if their ankle is still swollen. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us.
